His father graduated high school and worked in the furniture factories while his mother attended college—the first person in his family to do so. She worked in social work and community action to help others gain a piece of the American dream while Troy’s father was active on the local housing authority to provide housing for low-income families.
Troy remembers when his parents bought their first home and later when they bought land to build a house after their family had expanded. Troy was struck by the difference between his family and those of his friends. By owning their home, his parents were creating wealth that the parents of his friends were not.
While his father may have complained about the mortgage, he was creating assets that would enable him and his wife to send their children to college. One became a lawyer, another an accountant, and two became realtors.
But first Troy took on the family tradition of non-profit work. After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Troy became a fundraiser working for universities in the Washington, DC, area and then for the National Building Museum.
At the museum he raised funds for an exhibition on affordable housing at the same time as he was purchasing his first home. While working with the architects featured in the exhibition and the national organizations dedicated to ensuring housing as a right and not a privilege, Troy learned what his parents knew decades earlier—the truest path to personal wealth is real estate.
Troy began investing in property in the DC area, South Carolina, and Florida. He joined Brandon Green & Associates to help others understand the lessons his parents had taught him and to help them achieve financial stability through investing in real estate.
Troy takes great satisfaction in guiding his clients to their dream homes and getting on the path to financial freedom. Troy has an eye for the needs of investors, but he also appreciates the importance of the home-buying decision for clients looking for a place to live. His customer focus helps clients find the perfect home and the property that will put him or her on the road to building wealth.
